Welcome back to another Monday WOW! It has been a while since we posted something to help start off our working week. But, now that we’re back from our work-holiday in New Zealand, we should be back on track.
“Don’t ask what the world needs.
Ask what makes you come alive and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who come alive.”
– H Thurman
While I was in New Zealand, I had the unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty of this country with my family, whilst trying to weigh the options of my working life.
Although I was officially on holiday after the first 3 days (I was there for work to attend the Social Media and Mobile Apps Forum start with), I went around travelling with the family the rest of the time — visiting a friend in Christchurch and seeing the ruins of the earthquakes, trying out hot pools in -1.5’C for the first time, checking out local wildlife, hiking to see a glacier, walking through forests to see an amazing lake with snow-capped mountains in the background, attempting to ski for the first time, building a snow man…
Through all these, I have been trying to keep up with some of my work due to a number of circumstances. This included messages about work-related issues, job opportunities, and project possibilities — and even a massive career mapping exercise that led me to this quote.
The quote helped me to find a compass on the best way to go when working on career paths and project directions.
In life, family, friendship, travel… They make me come alive. That’s why I know that time spent with people I care about, doing things I love, will always be time well spent.
Work That Matters also makes me feel excited. That’s why it’s great to find ways to make day-to-day decisions on the job based on this same buzz.
Are you doing work that matters to you? How are you finding ways to make you come alive outside of your job?
And, on a smaller scale… What is it about this upcoming task this week, this project that you’re working on… That excites you? That makes you feel alive? That’s what will help you to keep going… That’s the contribution that you’re giving to our world.
Have a great week ahead, full of things that make you come alive!
